Coming Into Focus: People Living with Spinal Cord Injury In BC

This recently released BCPA report provides insight into the ability of British Columbians with spinal cord injuries to be physically active, participate in fulfilling relationships, find information and support, participate fully in their communities and live satisfying lives.

This report is a culmination of work BCPA has conducted over the past few years to better understand the issues that are important to our members and will shape both the services and advocacy offered by BCPA and other organizations.

Life After Spinal Cord Injury, the Canadian Paraplegic Association's comprehensive resource guide

Life After Spinal Cord Injury contains everything you need to know about spinal cord injury in easy-to-understand language (English or French).

Based on the original series of information booklets covering all aspects of spinal cord injury, including health and your return to the community. This version combines all information into one single volume with updated text in all chapters and a major update in the "Loves Me Loves Me Not" chapter to reflect advances in technology and medicine aimed at improving the sexual and reproductive lives of people with spinal cord injuries.

This is an indispensable resource for individuals and family members, and as valuable for those with new injuries as it is for those who have lived with spinal cord injuries for any length of time.

Publishing of this edition was made possible by an educational grant from Pfizer Canada. Life after Spinal Cord Injury is available to individuals with new injuries through their rehabilitation consultants. It is also available for purchase through BCPA. For more information, contact us.

Workforce Participation Survey of Canadians with Spinal Cord Injuries

An in-depth study of work participation, income and education rates of Canadians with spinal cord injuries.

This report offers a multitude of information about Canadians with spinal cord injuries, including education and employment rates, the types of jobs they are engaged in, income ranges, use of and satisfaction with vocational and employment services offered by the CPA, and barriers to employment.

Opening Doors to Rehabilitation

This comprehensive manual includes examination questions and qualifies for 52 hours of maintenance credits by the Commission on certification of Rehabilitation Counsellors. For more information, contact us.

Life Interrupted

It’s all about YOUTH. Got a spinal cord injury? How about a resource that’s for youth, by youth – no adults allowed?

Life Interrupted is a new manual for youth with SCI. It’s written by people between the ages of 12 and 21 – people who have been there and done that. People like you. The manual, sponsored by McKesson Canada Inc. and Pfizer Canada, bridges the generation gap while providing plain and practical information for the thousands of youth with SCI.

Through a series of personal quotes and stories, Life Interrupted illustrates the experiences of youth, telling their tales about coping with life after SCI. It’s information that matters to youth: rehab and coming home; independence, friends and fitting in; dating, sex and sexuality; challenges and attitudes; and moving out on your own. There’s a special section for parents and siblings too, with first-hand accounts from family members who have supported a loved one through a spinal cord injury.

Life Interrupted will be available in both English and French in June 2005. CPA members can get a copy through their provincial offices for free; all others can get it through CPA’s national office for $9.00 (including GST) to cover shipping, handling and future printing costs. For more information about this must-read resource, contact CPA National Office.
